URBAN TRADE: BREAKING BREAD PT.1 EVENT RECAP
The idea for Breaking Bread has been three years in the making. Born from my unconventional family dinners (sitting on the floor, living room, congregating outside with plates of food, breaking bread with family, friends, those in need and strangers has been an integral part of growing up. Breaking bread and sharing food with people is the most important/joyous for me. It’s the closest I can be to an individual, it’s how I show my love and care for them....eating with them. Furthermore, seeing my mom, grandmothers and aunts share food out of a pot that’s always seemed endless, has always been a miracle to me. The other day, my grandma fed 10 people out of one pot, with more left over and I was in awe. My mother cooked and fed everyone that came/comes in our house, no matter their walks in life, homeless, addicted, recovering, veterans down on their luck, the food seems endless and we all sat/currently sit at the same table. My brother in laws mother cooks in abundance for all families she knows. My aunt has always made sure she had and has/still shares food to feed multiple house holds....from ONE pot. My sister bakes bread and other things and sends MORE than half out to family always. My aunt who passed that would welcome my friends to her thanksgiving every year and send us all with food. People like this that share food are just a few examples of God walking with us every single day. That’s such a miracle to see. It’s like the story of fish & bread and how they miraculously multiplied to feed everyone.
This is a labor of love that my FAMILY has shown me. Sharing love through cooking is just a wonder to behold. That’s what #BreakingBread is all about.
We were able to bring together 25 strangers in during trying times for our society who all chatted and exchanged contacts, ideas and happiness. We needed a break from the world and we are incredibly happy for those that shared it with us, this was a success!
All disposable items used were 100% renewable from Naturally Chic. These plates are made from fallen palm leaves, hand stretched and flattened out. Each plate is unique and beautiful in its own way. Your plates will be directly incorporated in Green Foods Market composting bins, helping to make this event completely zero waste! We thank Emunah of The Yummy Cottage for chefing up this family style dinner for people to enjoy and Joyce from Detox Energy Greens for all the incredible help!
Thank you for all that attended and stay tuned for more events.
